Simple vs Complex

These are select photos from a series of ten simple to complex pictures.  I used iron bars, wooden fences, and metal grating as a subject matter.  In some of the pictures the structures themselves become more intricate, in others the layering of bars or shadows is what makes the pictures more complex.

Since most of the fences did not have color themselves I took the pictures so that there would be vivid color to draw the eye.  The four pictures above particularly take good advantage of this.

False Landscapes

To get these images I used a brick I found outside and shot it in front of a computer monitor with red see-through plastic .  To truly get the photos to look like a rocky desert landscape I had to play with the color of the monitor in conjunction with the color of my flash.

I am very pleased with how the photos turned out. They are able to fool the viewer and at the same time remain very surreal and a little off.

I tried some different alteration with this photo the enhance the color and contrast, but the original unaltered photo still looked better than anything I could change.

When I was photographing this assignment I tried different soft and harsh lights to shoot my subject. I even hooked up a black light to give her shadow some color. I realized when I started to fool around with pictures on photoshop that the ones with the black light were much more interesting than the pictures altered to have color in the shadows.

Ultimately I did not use the black light photos because it made the shot too bright.

Horror Movie Theme

This photograph is what I imagine a shot from a horror movie to look like.
